A new purpose-built distribution center completed in late 2016 for Anzor Fasteners in Albany has been the perfect place for Pavecraft - an Auckland paving and concrete installer - to use one of two specialist paver laying machines to lay approximately 1100m2 of Firth’s Holland® Pavers.
“It has taken architects a few years to realise how good Firth’s PaveWare® range is and we are now seeing a lot more jobs being specified,” explains Warren Third, Commercial Manager for Pavecraft. “The paver specified for this driveway and carpark was Firth’s PaveWare® Holland Set paver (200 x 100 x 80mm) in graphite which meant we could use our specialist laying machine.”
With two of these in their fleet Warren explains how on large area jobs there can be real savings in time and money for customers. “Anything over 1000m2 makes it worthwhile to use. How it works is that the machine picks up a whole layer of pavers at once and lays them together. We just need Firth to specifically load the pallets in the pattern we will be laying - which is normally herring-bone. This interlocking pattern means the machine clamps a whole layer of pavers which stay locked together until they are placed.”
Warren says the machine can lay from 300-400m2 of pavers a day but that it is most cost effective for large areas. “It not only lays Firth’s PaveWare® Holland® and Holland® Set pavers but it can also lay PorousPave® from Firth’s EcoPave® range of permeable pavers. If customers have large areas to pave it’s definitely worth using our services,” he adds.
With big savings to be made on paving large areas, Pavecraft will be shipping the specialist machine to Christchurch for a period of time for a couple of large jobs in the garden city.
