It’s not often you see a concrete truck perched on the edge of a remote hill on New Zealand’s coast but that is exactly what the team from Canterbury Concrete was asked to do to assist with repairs to a Department of Conservation (DOC) walking track - Godley Head to Taylors Mistake - after it was damaged in the Christchurch earthquakes.

“The track remained open during the reinstatement as it wasn't a large job for us,” said Richard Barnes, Area Operations Manager – Canterbury Metro for Firth.  “But it was special in that we were supplying concrete to a remote part of Canterbury looking out over the entrance to Lyttelton Harbour. The helicopter was operating two skips that can hold approximately 0.2m3. While he was delivering one skip load our team were re filling the other skip.”

The pour was completed in just over an hour and enough time for the Canterbury Concrete team to enjoy lovely weather and some remarkable scenery.
